Tips: Why do we need soft starters?
The soft starter is essential because directly starting a large motor creates a massive inrush current—5 to 8 times the motor's full-load current—which causes a significant voltage dip on the electrical network, disrupting other equipment operating on the same power supply. Simultaneously, the immediate application of full torque delivers a sharp mechanical shock to the driven load, such as pumps, conveyors, or fans, violently jerking gears, belts, and shafts, which accelerates wear and can lead to premature failure. The soft starter eliminates this dual problem by gradually ramping up the voltage and torque, transforming a damaging, abrupt start into a smooth, controlled acceleration that protects both the electrical system and the mechanical equipment.
